To give a great pitch, you need to get both your verbal language and your body language just right. If you don’t, your body language can actually undermine what you are trying to say, even as you say it!

The first of these tips is to boil your message down to a simple message. Speaking to a live audience is very different to writing a document. So if you want your business sales strategy to be effective, you need to boil your key messages down to a few key statements.

These should be bold, smart, and quotable – like a television sound bite or a newspaper headline.

Once you have organized these headline statements into a logical flow that leads step-by-step to where you want, you now have what is known as an ‘elevator pitch’ – the distilled essence of your message which you could hypothetically deliver in an elevator in the time it takes to travel between floors!

A snappy elevator pitch will be very easy for your audience to digest, and very persuasive.

The next tip is to use simple, everyday language in your presentations. If you have an important message you want to convey, you need to make it as easy as possible for the audience to understand it. Don’t try to confuse or intimidate those who you are trying to sell to.

Avoid jargon and buzz words as these will tend to obscure your message.
