Blogs: Things to Consider When Blogging on Social Networks

Social Networks

Blogs and blogging, are becoming increasingly widespread and social networks are also becoming more and more popular as well.

These networks include popular websites such as Facebook and MySpace.Com, where users can create personal websites and interact with other users.

They include a broad range of components including text, images, audio, video and blogs.

Here, users can voice their opinions, provide updates on their lives, offer insight into current events or accomplish any number of other goals.

However, bloggers who employ social networks to maintain their blogs, have to consider various factors.

This article will discuss some of these factors including whether to make your site accessible to the public or keep it private, considering the audience and dealing with harassment.

Should I make my blog public or private?

Most social networks enable you to render your website either public or private. Private websites are only accessible to the user and other users you specifically approve to view your website, while public websites are available to all users of the system.

These same capabilities also apply to the blogs which are maintained on these networks. For this reason, you must determine whether or not you wish to make your blog posts available to the entire network or to only a part of it.

This decision will be largely based on a matter of personal preference. Social networks can be quite populated and some bloggers may be uneasy about their information being available to such a considerable audience, while others may have no apprehension about the size of the prospective audience at all.

You should carefully consider this option prior to starting and always maintain the option to modify these settings after the blog has been established, in case you change your mind about your original decision.

Consider the blog audience

Bloggers who utilize these vast networks, must also carefully consider the potential audience for their blog. The majority of social networks include a broad cross section of the general public. Therefore you must be aware of this audience when posting and should consider how the entries will be interpreted by the audience.

While it will never be possible to get around offending all potential audience members, you may want to consider at least attempting to ensure the blog entries you post are appropriate for all members of the network. If this is not viable, you can consider making it private.

How to deal with harassment

Another aspect you should be aware of when using social networks, includes the potential for harassment from other members.

This can be in the form of impertinent comments posted in response to blog entries.

Depending on the degree of the harassment, you may elect to either ignore these comments or take stronger measures. You should reassess the policies of the network and solicit their assistance in dealing with harassment from other users.

In most cases dealing with the problem may be as easy as blocking the user from making comments on the blog, but in a few cases, it may be necessary to communicate with the administrators in an attempt to get the user banned from the system.

In this situation, the administrators will examine the situation and make a decision regarding whether or not the user has violated their terms of service.

Managing Multiple Blogs

Multi TaskingWhile some bloggers may focus exclusively on only one blog at a time, there are many who manage to maintain several different blogs concurrently.

However, not all bloggers do this successfully.

Some compromise the quality of content as well as the quantity of content, by trying to maintain too many blogs.

While others have the ability to keep several blogs up to date and interesting to visitors.

There are a few key elements to maintaining multiple successful blogs.

This article will discuss some of these elements including keeping content original, keeping blogs up to date and budgeting time to work on each blog.

Keeping Content Original

If you’re going to maintain multiple blogs, you must be careful to keep the content of each blog original.

Even if the you maintain several related blogs, it is important to ensure each of these blogs has original blog postings. This will help to prevent your visitors from feeling as though the information they are receiving is not original.

It will also help to prevent readers who frequently visit one or more of your blogs, from deciding to start only visiting one because they feel the postings are redundant.

Also, be advised against stealing posts from other similar blogs. This is not only illegal, but is also not likely to help you very much. Dedicated readers of your original blog, will soon realize that your new blog is simply stealing content from a more successful blog.

Keeping Each Blog Up to Date

Bloggers who maintain multiple blogs are also advised to ensure each blog is kept up to date. This means you should take care to post on each blog regularly. Doing this will help to avoid problems which stem from your visitors feeling as though your blogs are stagnant.

Even the most interesting and informative blogs can lose traffic quickly if the blog visitors do not see new content on a regular basis.

The Internet is continually evolving and updating. As a result, Internet users can afford to be finicky and are not likely to remain dedicated to a blog which does not post new information regularly. They can simply find other blogs available which do provide updates on a more frequent basis.

Finding Time to Work on Each Blog

When maintaining several blogs, you will also be tasked with the dilemma of finding time to work on each blog. This however, is very important.

You simply cannot afford to neglect one or more of your blogs. Doing this can result in a marked decline in blog traffic. Therefore, bloggers who wish to maintain multiple blogs must budget their time carefully to ensure they are dedicating sufficient time to each blog.

This time management exercise can start out by assessing the needs of each blog.

Some blogs may require a great deal of time and effort each week to keep the blog functioning properly, while other blogs may require only a small amount of time for the same purpose.

In general, blogs which require a great deal of research will require more of your time and energy than blogs which are based on your opinions and feelings and are therefore not as research intensive. Once you have determined how much time will be required to maintain each blog, you can schedule your time accordingly.

However, you should plan to evaluate how well each blog is operating and you may have to make adjustments to the schedule as needed.

Additionally, you may also need to make the decision to eliminate a blog or enlist assistance in keeping your blogs updated if necessary.

New Wordpress Affiliate Clickbank Plugin Can Boost Your Blog Profits Immediately

Wordpress Affiliate ClickBank Plugin VideoMany different affiliate marketing tools, techniques and methods have made their way across my desktop in just the past few years alone. But I truly believe that this one, will be more effective than just about all of them.

…and after you’ve seen what I’m about to show you, you will too.

Now don’t get me wrong, article marketing is cool, except for the fact that the article directory gets to keep all the ad revenue and they are getting more particular about what articles they accept.

Review sites are OK, but does anyone really trust the reviews they read on those sites anymore? Most people know by now that review sites are just disguised sales pitches and aren’t honest reviews.

Social media is fun, but it has its limits.

It’s more about socializing and less about doing business.

Sure, you can make connections there, but at the end of the day the lion’s share of your profits are more than likely not coming from social media. That tells me that social media sites are not the most important places on the web.

So what is?

Your own blog.

In my opinion, there’s nothing like having your own blog, especially if you use WordPress. WordPress makes blogging much easier and a lot more effective.

Your blog is your castle.

YOU get to decide which content to put on it and don’t have to wait a week for someone else to approve it.

YOU get to keep all of your ad revenue. If you use Google Adsense, however, chances are it’s more like Google Adcents. And please don’t get me started on the Google slaps.

This is why it’s more effective to promote affiliate products on your own blog rather than having to rely on Adsense. Affiliate commissions have much higher payouts than ad clicks.

One thing you can do to promote affiliate products on your blog, is to have a "blog sponsor" section in your sidebar. You can place ads here (preferably with eye-catching graphics rather than just text) that link to select affiliate products and your own products if you have any.

Another option is to occasionally write a blog post or two that promote affiliate products. The posts will contain solid content in addition to your sales pitch. You should write the post as if you were talking to a friend so that it doesn’t come across as too sales-y. And you should never forget to have an opt-in form on your blog so that the email addresses of your blog readers can be collected for future correspondence.

Only on occasion should you promote affiliate products through email to your list.

I say on occasion because best marketing practices dictate that most of the emails you send to your list, should contain helpful, informative and engaging content. You can use your blog posts as content but you should also use original content in your emails too.

In other words, mix it up.

There’s one text ad tool that’s new, comes highly recommended, and shows much promise. It’s called The WordPress Affiliate Clickbank Plugin and it automatically inserts professional looking text link ads for Clickbank products on your blog.

* This is the Ultimate Adsense alternative for bloggers who use the Wordpress platform.

* You get 50-70% commissions for any sales you get from the Clickbank ads on your blog (this means you will earn dollars and not cents!)

* You get Targeted Clickbank affiliate text links added to your blog posts

* It’s Very Easy to install and use (literally takes a few minutes to setup)

* You can use this on Unlimited Websites

…and to top it off, the product creator, Nikola Jankovic of Peomedia, is throwing in Free Lifetime Updates!

The Wordpress Clickbank Affiliate Plugin is one of those ideas that is so simple yet Innovative and highly Effective and can make you more money from your blogs if you implement it.

Watch the demo video on this website to see for yourself how profitable this plugin can be when added to your blogs.

Latest Internet Marketing News, Tips and Tricks Around the Web

Latest Internet Marketing News

Today I decided to start a little something new on my blog.

I’m constantly getting emails from my readers asking for fresh information, the newest tips, tricks, techniques and ideas in the internet marketing world.

I’m also continuosly receiving feeds and information from around the Net on these very topics.

So, I thought it would be a good idea to periodically share some of this information, give a few of my own thoughts and share the source links so that others who are interested can dig deeper if they so choose.

One blog post in particular caught my attention straight away. I wanted to share this because it is very well written and answers a question I receive on almost a daily basis…

"How do I get good traffic to my website without a lot of out of pocket expense?"

Check out this answer given by Andrew, a fellow blogger at Internet Marketing Strategies.

"There is one hard and fast rule in generating income for your website: A gradual flow of web site traffic. If no one goes to your web site, it hardly bares a likelihood of generating an income. Several sites have tried and failed in doing Increase Website Traffic therefore, and these results to the sites demise.

It takes money to take care of an income generating web site; it also takes money to form money. – BUT, it doesn’t take a whole caboodle of cash to get web site traffic for your site." – Continue reading Top Five Ways to Create Low Value Website Traffic

Note: I think Andrew should have titled the post "Top Five Ways to Create High Value, Low Cost Website Traffic" but we understand what he means :-)

Another interesting blog post, written by Aussie blogger Sean Rasmussen, is geared towards business blogging and the benefits of making your blog interactive.

Sean says:

"A blog is an important marketing tool. It can effectively drive traffic to your website, or promote products from an affiliate marketing program. Unfortunately, few e-commerce business owners know how to truly use a blog to its ultimate advantage. If all you have on your blog is post after post of text written as sales letters, then you are missing out on the real point of this marketing tool." – Continue reading Tips on Making Your Blog More Interactive

How to Pitch Bloggers: Get Your Products Featured on the Big Blogs

Bloggers and blogs are now a vital part of any marketer or small business’s web strategy, according to leading social marketing expert Hilary Topper of HJMT Communications.

In this new business television show produced by yourBusinessChannel, Topper explains that the most popular bloggers are now just as influential as the mainstream news media in popularizing products.

In her social marketing tips on the show, Topper explains that bloggers’ opinions really count and really matter, and if they promote a product, their followers and readers will buy it in big quantities. So for entrepreneurs looking for new ways to enhance their small business marketing strategy, pitching to bloggers can be a powerful tool that can result in a real impact on sales.

Topper illustrates her web strategy and business advice by referring to several real life examples where a positive mention by the right blogger has transformed the sales results of a small business. Many of her examples are clients of her own.

Topper has seen first hand the kind of results that the internet marketing tips and social marketing tools she gives here can achieve.

Topper’s examples range from everything from a new kind of screwdriver that was blogged about by a specialist hardware blogger, to a girl scout company who used bloggers to trial and promote their new flavour of girl guide cookie. The wide range of examples just proves what a powerful social marketing technique this is.

All marketers need to be thinking about pitching not only to news media, but also to bloggers, says Topper. Of course, while this sounds simple in theory, it is not always easy to get bloggers to write about you and your products.

Topper has plenty of helpful business advice for marketers trying to persuade bloggers to try out their products and write about them. It is important to check out the blogger and what they like to write about, and to be persistent.
